Darth Vader actor, Dave Prowse, has tragically passed away.

The legendary actor, who provided the frame for Darth Vader, died at the age of 85.

He starred as Darth Vader in three Star Wars movies.

More specifically, the original three, A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi.

Star Wars is one of the biggest franchises of all time.

And it all started in 1977, with the first, eponymous movie – and it quickly became a widespread phenomenon.

Since then, there have been many iterations.

The first film, now known as Episode Four, was followed by 2 sequels. These 3 movies are now known as the original trilogy - and Prowse was a huge part of every one.

                                  The movies were universally acclaimed.

Harrison Ford as Han Solo was a perfect choice, and fans still look back on this era fondly.

The original trilogy was followed by more films.

The next part of the Star Wars franchise was a trilogy of prequel movies, which were released between 1999 and 2005 and were all a commercial success.

The franchise has since had several more revivals.

The event was host to an array of exciting announcements from the Hollywood studio.

The 3-day event was jam-packed with tantalizing sneak peaks, previews, and teasers.

During the course of the event, fans learned about what they can expect from the studio in the up and coming months.

But they didn't mention that a new movie was on the way...

But I guess it makes sense that the news was revealed on May 4th, right?

There were a lot of rumors.

But nothing was confirmed until May 4.

                                  Disney made the special announcement.

They announced that Taika Waititi has officially signed up to direct a live-action Star Wars movie, which is set for a release in theaters (not on the Disney+ streaming service.)

Not only that, but he will also be co-writing the entire thing.

He will be joining forces with Krysty Wilson-Cairns, an Oscar-nominated artist who has previously worked on masterpieces such as war-time thriller, 1975.

This is set to be one hell of a collaboration.

Despite this being his first proper gig with a Star Wars feature film, Waititi has previously directed the season finale, which was a massive accolade for his already long list of achievements.

But tragically, Dave Prowse, will not be around to see it.

The original Darth Vader actor, who portrayed the villain physically, with James Earl Jones providing the voice, passed away aged 85.

He spent 50 years as an actor.

And starred in a plethora of impressive roles such as in Star Wars, and also A Clockwork Orange, and Casino Royale.

Prowse's agent confirmed the news of his death.

                                  His agent, Thomas Bowington, wrote:
May the force be with him, always! Though famous for playing many monsters - for myself, and all who knew Dave and worked with him, he was a hero in our lives.

"[It's] a truly and deeply heart-wrenching loss for us and millions of fans all over the world."

                                  It truly is.

Prowse was recruited by George Lucas to the franchise.

And Lucas even offered him two roles up front: Chewbacca or Darth Vader.

And Prowse instantly decided he wanted to be Darth Vader - and history was made.

                                  Speaking about it, Prowse said:
The first one is a character called Chewbacca. I said, ‘What in the h*** is Chewbacca?’ He goes through the film on the side of the goodies, you see? I heard that and said, ‘Three months in a gorilla skin? No, thank you very much!'

"The other one is called Darth Vader. He’s the big villain of the film, you see?"

I said, don’t say anymore George, I’ll have the villain’s part. He said, ‘Tell me why?’ Think back on all the movies you’ve ever seen when there’s good guys and bad guys. You always remember the bad guy!

                                  Rest in peace.

Prowse's legacy will go on forever. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends during this hard, hard time.
